Hi. Do you mind if I take your picture?

The Encyclopedia Britannica describes street photography as "a genre of photography that records everyday life in a public place. The very publicness of the setting enables the photographer to take candid pictures of strangers, often without their knowledge".

So I must confess that I don't always ask permission to take someone's picture. And I don't ask because I think you don't always get the best shot if you give someone time to prepare. Which is of course the total opposite to portrait photography which is the other side of what I do.
